Victoriana: Sartori Sartori Autumn / Winter 2011-12 Collection

The fascination with things Victorian has been a British postwar vogue and one which shows no sign of exhaustion. Leading the inspiration for Autumn / Winter 2011-12; ‘Victoriana’ is almost a meditation of this modern obsession of the Victorian era and its regeneration in 21st century fashion.

Q. Is the proliferation of Victoriana more than nostalgia, in a world where our passage from modernity to postmodernist has been marked by the
     profound loss of a sense of history?

A. When remembering our past we rediscover ourselves.

In 1960 Victoriana might have narrowly meant the collectable remnants of material culture in the corner antiques shop but by the 1970’s its reference had widened to embrace a constellation of 19th century images that became markers for particular moments of contemporary style and culture.

This era of highly ornamented architecture, décor and furnishings provides the canvas for this season’s pallet of rich, austere tones of Harvard Crimson, Deep Carmine, Onyx, Midnight Blue, Deep Emerald Green and Oro. Traditional British Chester Barrie fabric blends such as cashmere and wool are juxtaposed with luxurious cloths such as silk and lace to create a Victoriana infused range of Women’s Wear for the Autumn / Winter 2011-12 season.
